Un procedimiento experimental realizado por un equipo de médicos griegos y españoles, dio como resultado el nacimiento de un bebé con el ADN de tres personas.
Esto se debe a que se utilizó el ADN de la madre, el esperma del padre y un óvulo de una mujer donante, como método para ayudar a las familias afectadas por enfermedades mitocondriales mortales heredadas.
El niño, que nació el 9 de abril en un hospital de Atenas, tuvo un peso de 2.850 kilogramos y 48 centímetros de estatura. Su vida será totalmente normal, aunque estará sometido a un amplio seguimiento para supervisar el impacto de la técnica en su desarrollo.
La madre del bebé griego, de 32 años, está bien y comparecerá ante los medios de comunicación la semana que viene.
Es la primera vez en la historia que esta técnica se utiliza para solucionar problemas de fertilidad, pero ya fue utilizada por investigadores estadounidenses en México en 2016, para evitar que una mujer jordana transmitiera a su hijo una rara enfermedad genética hereditaria.
