El Servicio Geológico de EE.UU., a su vez, estima la magnitud del sismo en 6,8. El temblor se ha registrado a 105 kilómetros al suroeste de la localidad de Tugu Hilir. La agencia estadounidense sitúa el foco del sismo en una profundidad 42,8 kilómetros.
