La fiesta de Halloween se celebra en distintas partes del mundo con gran algarabía, pero esta sería la verdad sobre su origen.

De acuerdo a diversos portales, Halloween es una fiesta de origen pagano que se celebra la noche del 31 de octubre, víspera del Día de Todos los Santos, y que tiene sus raíces en el antiguo festival celta conocido como ‘Samhain’, que significa «fin del verano» y se celebraba al finalizar de la temporada de cosechas en Irlanda para dar comienzo al «año nuevo celta».

Durante esa noche se creía que los espíritus de los difuntos caminaban entre los vivos, y se realizaban fiestas y ritos sagrados que incluían la comunicación con los muertos. Los sacerdotes Druidas iban de casa en casa demandando todo tipo de comidas extrañas para su propio consumo y para ofrecerla después en el festival de la muerte.

Si la gente se negaba a sus demandas hablaban una maldición demoníaca sobre el hogar, y la historia cuenta que alguien de esa familia moría en transcurso del año.

La palabra “Halloween” se empezó a usar en el siglo XVI y parece ser es de origen escocés «All Hallow’s Eve» (víspera de Todos los Santos). Fue en 1840 cuando esta festividad llega a Estados Unidos y Canadá, donde queda fuertemente arraigada. Fueron los inmigrantes irlandeses quienes difundieron esta costumbre en ambos países.

En cuanto al uso de calabazas, solían colocar una vela encendida dentro de una calabaza inspirada en la popular leyenda de «Jack el tacaño», que consiguió engañar al diablo. El primer desfile tuvo lugar en Minnesota en 1921. En los años setenta la televisión y sobre todo el cine popularizaron la fiesta.

El resto es historia, la festividad se popularizó en todo el mundo, done miles de niños y jóvenes la celebran con emoción. Los pequeños salen a pedir dulces disfrazados de fantasmas y superhéroes y los adultos se aventuran en excéntricas fiestas en la que ir disfrazado es una obligación.

Lo bueno y lo malo de esta celebridad

A lo largo de los años hemos leído muchas teorías acerca de por qué no deberíamos adoptar Halloween como una fiesta, ya que estamos abriendo la puerta a seres malignos. Pero en realidad, quienes principalmente lo celebran y esperan con entusiasmo, son los niños.

Lo bueno

-Es una celebración y una fiesta para los niños. Podría participar toda la familia.

-En ese día se recolecta muchos dulces.

-Podemos enseñarle a los niños que existen otras costumbres además de las de su país.

– La diversión que ofrece esta celebridad es el disfrazarse y decorar su casa.

Lo malo

– Tomar como costumbre propia y despreciar a las autóctonas.

-Disfraces que incitan a personajes diabólicos y demoníacos.

–  El riesgo de aceptar dulces de origen desconocido, pueden contener drogas u otras sustancias.

-Desde punto de vista espiritual invoca espíritus malignos. Realizando rituales impropias.
