En el 2019 Michael Esmond pagó la cuenta eléctrica de 36 hogares que enfrentaban la desconexión del servicio en Navidad; ahora en el 2020 pagó la de 114 viviendas.
El hombre residente en el Panhandle de Florida (Estados Unidos) se hizo cargo de las facturas atrasadas sin pagar de las familias en riesgo de que les cortaran el suministro de gas y agua de la vivienda en estas fechas navideñas y como consecuencia de los estragos de la pandemia de la COVID-19, informaron este martes medios locales.
Esmond es propietario de un negocio cerca de Pensacola (noroeste), quien pagó de su bolsillo 7 615 dólares para evitar que 114 familias sufrieran el corte del suministro de gas, agua y otros servicios.
Para Esmond, de 74 años, era «obvio que este año iba a ser mucho peor para algunas familias que el año pasado», con la pandemia del coronavirus y el impacto del huracán Sally en septiembre pasado, recogió el canal Fox29.
«Estamos en una zona que es una gran área de vacaciones y nuestro verano fue devastado», agregó, para explicar que el objetivo de su acción benefactora es hacer estas fiestas un poco menos estresantes a algunas familias que no han podido abonar los recibos de gas, agua u otros servicios.
La supervisora de recibos del departamento de servicios de la ciudad, Anne Oliver, dijo a este medio que el dinero servirá para saldar las deudas de facturas de clientes con más de 60 días de atraso en el pago de servicios de agua, alcantarillado y gas.
