El engaño y la traición a manos de un encantador psicópata son temas habituales en los escabrosos de las series de Netflix, pero Mary Turner Thomson sufrió el calvario en carne propia, con detalles y giros dramáticos que ni los guionistas más creativos se animarían a inventar.

Cuando esta madre soltera escocesa conoció a Will Jordan, el norteamericano parecía el hombre perfecto: estable, cariñoso y amable. Pero después de casarse con él y dar a luz a sus dos hijas, descubrió horrorizada que era un bígamo, tenía otra esposa y cinco prometidas… No era su cariñoso marido, era un estafador que engañó a decenas de mujeres, en Reino Unido y los EEUU.

Mary Turner Thomson lo cuenta todo en su libro “El psicópata”, que saldrá a la venta en Reino Unido mañana, 1 de marzo. Y el Daily Mail publicó un adelanto que incluye el relato en primera persona de la víctima y cómo montó una audaz operación encubierta que terminó con su marido tras las rejas y deportado a los EEUU.

El hombre del que me enamoré resultó ser un monstruo que no sólo dejaba embarazadas a las mujeres para estafarlas con dinero, sino que las torturó psicológicamente y abusó de ellas durante toda su vida, dejándolas incapacitadas mental, emocional y económicamente sólo para su propia diversión”, cuenta Mary.

Su pesadilla comenzó como un sueño romántico cuando conoció a Jordan por Internet en el año 2000, cuando ambos tenían 35 años. Madre soltera con una hija de un año y recuperándose de una relación fallida, Mary esperaba encontrar el amor en un hombre cariñoso. El estadounidense Will Jordan, guapo, seguro de sí mismo y de buen hablar, parecía ideal.

“Utilizó el tipo de técnicas que emplean los líderes de las sectas y los maltratadores, colmándome de amor desde el principio, antes incluso de que lo conociera”, dijo Mary. “Cuando empezamos a hablar por Internet, me envió largos correos electrónicos sobre su pasado y sobre la persona que era, y yo le conté mis sueños y aspiraciones. Además del encanto, Jordan también mintió descaradamente para ganarse su simpatía, afirmando que había tenido paperas de niño y que era infértil. “Me gustó que un hombre me hablara tan abiertamente de sus sentimientos. Su infertilidad lo convertía en una perspectiva mucho más adecuada, ya que yo ya tenía una hija y quería una figura paterna en su vida. Todo fue fácil… pero era una mentira”. La pareja se casó en 2002 y ella le creía todo. De hecho, tuvieron dos hijos, Eilidh y Zach, y Jordan la convenció de que milagrosamente se había curado de su infertilidad.

También la convenció de que vendiera su casa, al parecer para pagar un rescate que impidiera a hombres peligrosos relacionados con su trabajo en la CIA secuestrar a sus hijos.

“Me había estado diciendo mentiras descaradas. No sólo tenía ya al menos seis hijos cuando lo conocí en el año 2000, sino que tanto su mujer como la niñera de su esposa estaban embarazadas de él en ese momento”, cuenta Mary.

Descubrió que era un delincuente sexual convicto, que tenía cinco prometidas, dos esposas, y 13 hijos.

Él negaba todo… “Era un psicópata: parecía aburrido en el tribunal, como si le pusieran una multa de aparcamiento, y cuando lo sentenciaron no hubo ni un parpadeo de emoción. Sus ojos estaban muertos”, dijo Mary, que escribió su experiencia en su primer libro, The Bigamist.

Mary logró que lo encarcelaran pero tras dos años y medio en una prisión británica, fue liberado y deportado a Nueva Jersey en 2009. Siete meses después, la historia volvió a repetirse.

Nuevas víctimas, ahora norteamericanas la contactaron. Una mujer había quedado embarazada y sin hogar tras conocer a Jordan en un sitio de citas, otra era una mexicana con una hermana con síndrome de Down cuya familia él había arruinado económicamente.

La oportunidad de atraparlo llegó en 2014 cuando la enfermera estadounidense Mischele Lewis, de 36 años, se puso en contacto con Mary. “Al igual que yo, ella era una madre soltera que había estado en una situación infeliz antes de conocer a un hombre que parecía ser el señor correcto. Al igual que yo, se comprometió con él, perdió dinero con él y luego descubrió la verdad”.

Las dos mujeres idearon un audaz plan para que Mischele grabara en secreto a Jordan con una cámara oculta que llevaba como botón hasta que él confesara haberla estafado. La policía lo detuvo y fue encarcelado.

Pero al salir de la cárcel en 2017, Jordan siguió atacando a mujeres vulnerables.
